EALGA has developed a five year Strategic Plan, 2007 – 2011. EALGA Strategic Plan defines its role with regard to that of National Associations of LGAs, individual local authorities and the strategic priority areas to be addressed during the period. These include:
- Institutional Strengthening and Capacity Building for National Associations and their members;
- Implementing Human Rights, Promoting Democracy and Political Participation;
- Policy Research and Advocacy;
- Supporting Non violent Conflict Management;
- Better Inter-Governmental Relations and Equitable sharing of Development Resources;
- Sustaining the Means of Livelihoods of residents;
- Supporting Local Economic Developments.
